Getting to the Highfield Campus
Below are the directions on how to get to the Conference Venue (i.e., the Highfield campus). For more details, please visit the University’s website.
From Southampton Airport
Southampton International Airport is a few minutes away from Highfield campus (i.e., the conference venue) by Unilink bus U1C (£2 single/£3.70 all-day pass, view timetables) or taxi (usually around £6-12), off junction 5 of the M27. The bus stop is right outside of the airport. After arriving at the airport (view on map).
[Airport → Venue] To get to the Main Venue by the Unilink bus U1C, it is better to get off at Highfield Interchange bus stop and then walk for about 2 minutes (view the walking path).
[Airport → Jurys Inn] To get to Jurys Inn Hotel by the Unilink bus U1C, it is better to get off at Giddy Bridge bus stop and then walk for about 5 minutes (view the walking path).
There are flights to Southampton from UK airports, mainland Europe and the Channel Islands.
From Heathrow Airport
London Heathrow Airport is just over 60 miles from Southampton. You can catch a National Express coach direct to Southampton from the central bus station, located in the middle of Terminals 2 and 3. You can use the interactive map of Heathrow Airport to locate the central bus station (a capture can be found here).
[Heathrow → Venue] If you want to go directly to the Conference Venue, take a coach with the destination is University of Southampton. It will stop at the corner of Burgess Road and Broadlands Road Some. From here, it takes about 7 minutes to walk to the Main Venue (view the walking path).
[Heathrow → Jurys Inn] If you want to go to Jurys Inn Southampton, take a coach with the destination is Southampton Coach Station. Then, at Southampton Coach Station, it takes about 15 minutes to walk to Jurys Inn (view the walking path).
You can also travel by train from Heathrow to Paddington in central London. From London, you can take a train to Southampton. For more details see the National Rail website.
From Gatwick Airport
London Gatwick Airport is nearly 90 miles from Southampton. You can catch a National Express coach direct to Southampton Coach Station. You can also catch a direct train from Gatwick Airport to Southampton Central. For more details see the National Rail website.
From Southampton Coach Station
From Southampton Coach Station you will need to walk to the nearby Civic Centre, where can continue your journey to Highfield Campus using our own Unilink bus U1 or taxi (view the route).
Public Transport
Bus
Highfield Campus is easily accessible using our Unilink bus service. Unilink buses go from Southampton Airport, Southampton central train station, the city centre, the National Oceanography Centre and Southampton General Hospital to Highfield Campus. You can find timetables and route maps on the Unilink website. The Unilink bus fare is £2 for a single or £3.70 for an all-day pass.
[Jurys Inn → Venue] To get to the Main Venue from Jurys Inn, walk to Cenotaph bus stop (view the walking path) then take one of the following Unilink buses: U1A, U1E, U2B. It is better to get off at Jubilee Sport Hall bus stop and then walk about 3 minutes to the Main Venue ((view the walking paths). However, if you miss this bus stop, you can get off at Highfield Interchange and then walk for about 2 minutes to the Main Venue (view the walking path).
[Venue → Jurys Inn] To get back to Jurys Inn from the Main Venue, walk to Highfield Interchange then take U1C or U2C. It is better to get off at Giddy Bridge bus stop and then walk for about 5 minutes to get to Jurys Inn (view the walking path). Another option is that at Highfield Interchange, take U6C and then get off at bus stop. From this bus stop, it also takes about 5 minutes to walk to Jurys Inn (view the walking path).
Taxi
There are taxi ranks throughout the City Centre and immediately adjacent to the main railway, coach station, and airport.

From the City Centre, to get to the Highfield campus it takes about 15 minutes and the average cost is about £10.
Free Buses
There are buses which are free for HAI 2018 attendees during the time of the conference. The will be a “HAI 2018” sign on each bus. You can find details of the buses in the following parts.
All Unilink Buses
You can take any Unilink bus (U1x, U2x, U6x, and U9x) during the time of the conference. You just have to show the tiket provided at the reception desks to use the bus. A capture of the ticket is shown below.
Every Morning
Every morning there will be 3 shuttle buses coming from Jurys Inn to the Conference Venue:

The shuttles will wait in front of the hotel.
Welcome Reception
There will be 3 shuttle buses bringing attendees from the Conference Venue back to the Jurys Inn hotel at 9:15pm, 9:30pm, and 9:45pm. The shuttles will wait at Highfield Interchange.
Conference Banquet
There will be 2 coaches leaving from Highfield Interchange at 6:30pm to take the attendees of the dinner to Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa (Ocean Village, 5 Maritime Walk, Southampton SO14 3QT).
There will be 2 coaches taking people from Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa back to Jurys Inn and Highfield Interchange at 10pm.
