Full Papers – HAI 2026

We invite original contributions to HAI 2026 in the form of Full Papers. Accepted full papers will be published in the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series (ICPS) in the ACM Digital Library and presented as oral presentations at the conference. Past HAI proceedings are available here.

We welcome full research papers as well as position papers, preliminary studies, and concept papers that present novel ideas or high-impact early results. For the conference theme and the full list of topics, please refer to the Scope and Topics page.

Formatting & Templates

HAI 2026 accepts only online submissions of PDF files. Please use the official ACM templates provided below.

Microsoft Word Users

Note: The Word template is single-column. Please follow the estimated word count under the “Estimating the Page Count” section to ensure your paper meets the page limit.

LaTeX Users

Note: Please use the configuration: \documentclass[sigconf,review,anonymous]{acmart} inside the sample-sigconf.tex file.

Overleaf Users

Note: Select the “ACM Conference Proceedings Primary Article Template” from the gallery.

For more information on ACM templates, visit the ACM Primary Article Template page.

Supplementary Materials

Authors may optionally submit supplementary materials (e.g., videos, appendices, datasets) alongside their paper.

  • All supplementary materials must be anonymized.
  • Supplementary materials may not be used to circumvent the page limit. The paper must stand on its own.
  • Reviewers are not required to examine supplementary materials.
  • For large files (e.g., code, datasets), authors may provide a link to an anonymized hosting location.

Requirements & Policies

Page Limit

  • The page limit for full papers is 8 pages of content (or approximately 7,000 words), excluding references.
  • Additional pages containing only references are permitted and do not count toward the limit.
  • Submissions exceeding 8 pages of content will be subject to desk rejection without review.

Note: The word count is provided as a guide for Microsoft Word users, whose template produces a single-column layout. Please refer to ACM’s “Estimating the Page Count” section to ensure your paper meets the page limit.

Anonymization (Double-Blind Review)

HAI 2026 uses a double-blind review process. Please ensure your submission is properly anonymized:

  • Remove all author names, affiliations, and acknowledgements.
  • Cite your own prior work in the third person (e.g., “Smith et al. [5] showed…” rather than “We previously showed [5]…”).
  • Blur or obscure faces in images if they could identify an author.

Review Process

Each submission will be reviewed by three reviewers: two external reviewers and one Associate Chair (2AC). A senior Associate Chair (1AC) will then provide a meta-review summarizing the assessments. The Program Chairs will make the final acceptance decisions based on the reviews and meta-reviews. Papers will be evaluated on research originality, quality, significance, and relevance to HAI.

Dual Submission Policy

HAI 2026 does not allow dual or duplicate submissions. Papers that are substantially similar to work currently under review at, or previously published in, another venue will be desk-rejected without review.

Preprint Policy

Authors may upload their papers to preprint servers (e.g., arXiv) prior to submission. Posting a preprint will not result in rejection. However, the version submitted to HAI 2026 must be fully anonymized in accordance with the double-blind review policy. Reviewers are instructed not to actively seek out preprints or author identities, but will not be disqualified if they encounter such information.

Use of Generative AI

Authors must comply with the ACM Policy on Authorship. Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) may not be listed as authors. Use of such tools beyond basic editing must be disclosed. For anonymized submissions, this disclosure should be included in an anonymized manner within the submission (e.g., as a footnote or a short statement section), and moved to the Acknowledgements section in the camera-ready version.

Research Involving Human Participants

Submissions reporting studies with human participants are expected to include a statement of ethics approval (e.g., IRB or equivalent) and confirm that informed consent was obtained. For studies involving minors, describe how assent and guardian consent were obtained. Authors should follow the ACM Policy on Research Involving Human Participants and Subjects.

ACM Open Access Publishing Model

All HAI 2026 proceedings will be published as Open Access in the ACM Digital Library. Authors from institutions participating in the ACM Open program are not required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC). Authors from non-participating institutions will need to pay an APC unless eligible for a geographic or financial hardship waiver. For 2026, ACM offers a temporary subsidized APC rate of $250 for ACM/SIG members and $350 for non-members. For details, see the ACM ICPS Author Guidance.

Desk Rejection Criteria

Submissions may be desk-rejected without review for the following reasons:

  • No clear relevance to Human-Agent Interaction is described
  • Exceeding the 8-page content limit
  • Not using the required ACM template or not submitted as PDF
  • Violation of the anonymization requirements
  • Incomplete or placeholder submission
  • Dual or duplicate submission
